Charlotte Church slams music industry for being `sexist`
London: Charlotte Church has accused the music industry of having a "culture of demeaning women".
The 27-year-old Welsh and British singer-songwriter revealed that she was "pressurized" into wearing revealing outfits in videos by male executive during her early days, the BBC reported.
Church blamed record labels for encouraging young singers "to present themselves as hypersexualised, unrealistic, cartoonish, as objects".
During the BBC 6 Music`s annual ` John Peel Lecture`, ` The Prayer` singer claimed that the music business is "a male dominated industry with a juvenile perspective on gender and sexuality" and increasingly wants "sex objects that appear child-like".
She added that young female artists are routinely "coerced into sexually demonstrative behavior in order to hold on to their careers".
The `Ave Maria` singer particularly criticized Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Robin Thicke for their recent provocative performances and supported Annie Lennox`s recent call to give pop videos film-style age ratings.
