Pop stars are not shallow, says `I Kissed A Girl` hit maker Katy Perry

London: Singer Katy Perry has hit out at critics who think pop music is too shallow.

The 27-year-old `I Kissed A Girl` hitmaker, whose repackaged `Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection` hits shops on March 19, said pop songs do have a meaning attached to them, Daily Star reported.

"When you write a pop song, people think: `Ok your pop songs are pop songs` and they are really `whatever`. But if you listen to the lyrics, each line has a meaning and purpose.

"Basically what I`m trying to say is that I`m super deep," she said.

Perry, sporting her blue locks, also performed a short set in the lounge of a radio channel including new single `Part Of Me` and a country-tinged version of the anthemic `Firework`.
