Usher hands Gaddafi money
Los Angeles: Hip hop superstar Usher has become the latest celebrity to donate money he earned by performing at a concert connected to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
Stars including Beyonce, Mariah Carey and Nelly Furtado have admitted being paid to sing for the dictator`s relatives and have given up their fee amount for charitable causes.
Usher has now confirmed he was paid to appear at a 2009 New Year`s Eve party hosted by the dictator`s son, Muatassim Gaddafi, on the Caribbean island of St Barts, and he has vowed to give the cash to charity in light of recent events, reported ABC News.
A statement from the R&B star read, "I am sincerely troubled to learn about the circumstances surrounding the Nikki Beach St Bart`s event that took place on New Year`s Eve 2009. I will be donating all of my personal proceeds from that event to various human rights organisations."
The 32-year-old rapper`s representative has insisted the star has already made a donation to Amnesty International and will continue to hand cash to other human rights charities
throughout the year.
