Chennai: Wondering why film stars down south are literally worshipped by their diehard fan following? Here’s the reason- the veteran actors have time and again proved that they are not just artists but philanthropists. Rajini had met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha a few days back to handover Rs 10 lakh to express his solidarity with the victims of ‘Thane’ cyclone that hit the state in the last week of December last year. Kamal followed in the footsteps of his close friend Rajini by contributing Rs 15 lakh towards the state’s relief fund. Veteran Shivakumar along with his superstar son Surya too had met the CM to contribute Rs 25 lakh as a token of solidarity. Thane cyclone hit the coastal parts of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry on 30th December, 2011 damaging property and leaving almost close to 50 people dead. The list of other actors includes ‘Nanban’ Vijay and Sarath Kumar. Now this is what we called awakening of social consciousness!
