Douglas warned LaBeouf not to date Mulligan

London: Hollywood veteran Michael Douglas warned his co-stars Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan beforehand that embarking on a relationship would be a bad idea.

The `Wall Street` star says that he advised the young actors, who recently ended their year-long romance, not to get into a relationship as it is not a good idea to mix business with pleasure, Contactmusic reported.

"I warned Shia about that. I told him, `Do not get involved with your leading lady. Trust me. Whatever you do, don`t do that`," said Douglas who played Carey`s father in the film.

The 66-year-old actor recently completed a gruelling course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment for throat cancer and although he is optimistic about the outcome he insisted that the timing was bad as there is so much he wanted to do in his life.

"The timing of this sucks because there are so many things I wanted to do that I can`t right now. But I`m convinced that I`m going to lick it and come out a stronger and better person," he added.
