Bipasha Basu began her movie career with ‘Ajnabee’ in 2001 wherein she portrayed the role of a married woman trying to seduce her hubby`s friend. In the film she worked opposite actor Akshay Kumar who played the role of her husband. The film also starred Kareena Kapoor and Bobby Deol. It was directed by directed by Abbas-Mustan and produced by Niraj Vora.
In 2002 Bipasha’s film opposite then boyfriend Dino Morea ‘Raaz’ turned out to be one of the top grossing films of the year. It was an Indian ghost movie directed by Vikram Bhatt starring Dino and Bips as a couple who have moved to Ooty to save their failing marriage. A sequel to the film was released in 2009, under the title of ‘Raaz - The Mystery Continues’. Bipasha Basu went on to be praised for her role in the film, and was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award. However she did win the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award.
In the year 2003 Bipasha Basu is was casted in the film ‘Jism’ opposite actor John Abraham who also debuted in the same film. The film was directed by Amit Saxena. The music for the film was scored by M. M. Kreem. ‘Jism’ has been ranked 92 in the top 100 sexiest movie scenes poll conducted by Channel 4. With this film Bips gained new recognition of a sex symbol in Bollywood. She was also nominated for the Filmfare Best Villain Award for her role in the film.
‘No Entry’ was a comedy film released in 2005. It was directed by Anees Bazmee and produced by Boney Kapoor. The films stars Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Lara Dutta, Celina Jaitley, Esha Deol and Bipasha Basu. Sameera Reddy makes a special appearance. This film is loosely based on the Tamil film titled Charlie Chaplin. In the film Bips played a role of a call girl named ‘Bobby’. She was nominated as Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her role in ‘No Entry’.
Corporate came out in 2006 this film showed actress in a different light all together as compared to her other films. The film centered around the power games between two industrialists. The two companies are traditional rivals in the food products business. Bipasha Basu plays Nishigandha Dasgupta aka Nishi, vice president of one of the rival companies. She played a serious role as was much appreciated for her performance she was also nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award.
Omkara was a multi starrer released in 2006. It was an Indian film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello, co-written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. It starred Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, and Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles, supported by Vivek Oberoi, Naseeruddin Shah, and Konkona Sen Sharma with a cameo role from Bipasha Basu. Bips had an item number in the film ‘Beedi’ which became extremely popular and topped charts.
‘Race’ is a comedy, thriller and action film directed by Abbas-Mustan. It is loosely based on the 1998 Hollywood movie Goodbye Lover. The film became the fourth highest grossing Bollywood film of the year 2008. The film was dubbed into Tamil as ‘Panthayam’ and in Telugu as ‘Race Telugu’. The director duo is directing the sequel ‘Race 2’ set to release in 2011. The film starred Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu, and Katrina Kaif in pivotal roles.
Bachna Ae Haseeno
Bachna Ae Haseeno was released in 2008. It starred Ranbir Kapoor along with three actresses Bipasha Basu, Minissha Lamba and Deepika Padukone. It was directed by Siddharth Anand whose previous films include Salaam Namaste. In the film Bips played a role of a a small-town girl from Punjab, Radhika who gets cheated by her live-in boyfriend. Bips was nominated for a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress category for her role in the film.
Dum Maaro Dum
‘Dum Maaro Dum’ was Bipasha’s recent movie released in 2011. It is a hindi crime thriller film directed by Rohan Sippy, starring Abhishek Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Bipasha Basu and Prateik Babbar. The film which has been shot in Goa raised a lot of controversies before it was released. This is the first time a Bollywood film has been mixed in Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound. The film was released on April 22, 2011 in India and the United States.
Bipasha Basu makes her Holywood debut with her forthcoming film ‘Singularity’ opposite Josh Harnett. It is a romance time travel adventure film. The film is a sweeping tale of an impossible love set against the backdrop an Anglo-Maratha war across two time periods and continents. The film is being directed by Roland Joffé.
