Anthony Hopkins loses weight

New York: Oscar-winning-actor Anthony Hopkins went through a strict diet regime to drop five stone in weight.

The actor has become so thin that he was forced to give all his clothes away to charity because they no longer fitted him.

The `Silence of the Lambs` star says his body shape changed so much all of the items in his wardrobe were too big for him, New York Post reported.

"I can`t get back into my wardrobe. I gave it all away to some mission. I tried tailoring the pants but they look ridiculous," said the actor.

The actor, best known for his role as Hannibal Lecter, credits his wife Stella Arroyave for inspiring him to lose weight. The 73-year-old star opted for just 800 calories a day and regular gym session to get slim.

"My wife`s no dictator, but she said I must stick to a regimen. So I`m in the gym six days a week, I power walk, live on 800 calories a day. No pasta. No seconds. A sandwich occasionally. Now I`m a health nut.

"I was addicted to bread, cookies, whatnot. I love all the bad stuff."

Hopkins has previously said he went on a diet because he hated himself being big.

"I got tired of being heavy, so I went on a really good regime of eating healthy and exercising for an hour a day. I`m not a nutty, macrobiotic kind of guy, but I enjoy being alive."
