Gomez uses olive oil to protect her voice

London: Singer and actress Selena Gomez has said that she protects her voice by drinking olive oil.

The `Wizards of Waverly Place` star has several rituals which she undertakes before a performance and claims "disgusting" beverage helps her voice, reported Contactmusic.

"Before I go on stage, I drink olive oil. It`s disgusting, but it`s good for your throat. Then I grab my band and we do vocal warm ups and dance," said Gomez.

"After that, we put our hands together and say a little prayer," she added.

The `Round and Round` singer insisted she is not demanding and only makes simple requests for her backstage rider.

"I don`t ask for anything too fancy, just some tea. And I usually have lemons and pickles - I really love salty and sour things. I always like to have my favourite boots, too. They are very important as I wear them for all my shows - I haven`t fallen over in them yet," said the 18-year-old star.
