‘Silver Slimmer’ women in their 60’s taking to dieting with a vengeance

Older people are dieting in record numbers in a bid to get the perfect body like glamorous sixty-something model Twiggy and Dame Helen Mirren.

London: A new study has found that older people are dieting in record numbers in a bid to get the perfect body like glamorous sixty-something model Twiggy and actress Dame Helen Mirren.
The Omnibus poll, commissioned by diet and lifestyle experts Atkins, said the new wave of older weight watchers are much more dedicated and disciplined than younger generations of dieters, reports the Daily Express. Dubbed “silver slimmers”, they have been shown to stick to their diets for twice as long as people half their age. According to research, 70 percent of people aged 55-64 admitted they had either been on or were currently on a diet. Almost a third said they stuck to their slimming regime for six weeks or more and just 7 percent ditched their diet within two weeks. This compares with those aged 18-24, who have been found to be the least disciplined slimmers. A fifth of older women said they were motivated to slim by a determination to look good on the beach, just like ‘The Queen’ star Dame Helen, who has recently been pictured showing off her enviable figure in a number of bikinis. Twiggy, star of the Marks and Spencer adverts, who is still in fabulous shape at the age of 61, is also seen as a major inspiration for women wanting to look good even after they get their pensions.
