A horse riding accident in 1995 left the actor paralysed from the neck down, and was unable to breathe without help, let alone walk. Somehow, the actor showed a strength of will to match Superman and became a heroic champion for the rights of paralysed people. Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Matthew said that it is only a matter of time before people with severe spinal injuries will be able to regain the use of their limbs. The 33-year-old also revealed how the ground-breaking methods tested by his father are helping paralysed patients take seemingly miraculous steps. Even though Christopher died before he could achieve his dream of walking again, Matthew insists his father`s efforts were "100 per cent worthwhile." He believes in the pioneering work so much that he is now a director of The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, which funds research into potential cures for spinal injuries. (ANI)
