New Delhi: Typhoon Meranti, which is one of three most powerful typhoons ever recorded, struck China after pounding Taiwan on Thursday.
The powerful typhoon made landfall early on Thursday near the major city of Xiamen, China cutting power, ripping up trees and smashing windows, a day after lashing Taiwan.
Typhoon Meranti, which impacted Taiwan, Luzon and Fujian province this month, has become the strongest tropical cyclone worldwide in 2016.

Meanwhile, the US space agency has released an image of super Typhoon Meranti captured by the NASA-NOAA's Suomi NPP satellite as it hit the Philippines island of Itbayat in the Luzon Strait.
Meranti, also known in the Philippines as Typhoon Ferdie, was also the strongest typhoon since Typhoon Megi in 2010 in terms of pressure, the strongest since Typhoon Haiyan of 2013 in terms of maximum sustained winds.
