How far can under-fire Dhoni go without the 'midas touch'?

How far can under-fire Dhoni go without the `midas touch`?Suyash Srivastava

It needs a lot of courage for a skipper, who lost 8-0 in two away series followed by humiliation on home turf, to say he wouldn’t step down as a skipper. Or wait, it needs some support as well. MS Dhoni has both. BCCI chief N Srinivasan’s blue-eyed boy knows he can dictate terms irrespective of the results and in spite of the criticism.

The team environment depends a lot on how much respect the players have for their skipper. England had many match-winners in their squad, but the major difference between the two teams was the captaincy of Alastair Cook. The left-hander played fabulous knocks one after another, and his approach, despite having lost the first Test, from the second Test onwards lifted the entire England dressing room.

Alastair Cook scored five consecutive centuries in Tests as a skipper. Dhoni has five in his entire career. While Dhoni’s technique for Test matches is questionable, the major concern should be the dressing room environment under his captaincy.

When the players know the truth that prevented his sacking as a skipper, there is no reason why they would gel with him. Because they are thorough professionals, the on-field chemistry may reflect a different story, but the truth lies in their heads and Dhoni’s presence as captain would surely be hurting them to an extent.

India have now lost six out of the last eight Test matches they have played against England. We might witness a similar humiliation against the Aussies if things don’t change. The rift within the team hasn’t settled either. And Amarnath’s revelations have made things murkier. Dhoni’s presence, at least in Test matches, will continue to spread negative vibes among the players.

While the fans will remain indebted to Dhoni for the laurels he has brought as a captain, they would also remember him as the only skipper who was retained because of the support from BCCI chief and not for his skills.

The team needs a change and Kohli is the right man to get India out of this embarrassing situation. His ability to score runs and his athleticism on the field can bring the best out of the other players. The hard-working Delhi lad has proved his ability with the bat and there is no reason for any delay.

Kohli should also be given the freedom to choose his own team. The dynamic right-hander would immediately want to implement the transition process in which India can also experiment with a new specialist wicket-keeper batman. Wriddhiman Saha, Dinesh Karthik and Naman Ojha are the few names who can play big innings which is expected of a wicket-keeper batsman.

By now, we all have realised that Dhoni wouldn’t step down until and unless the ‘support’ is withdrawn. The post-mortem should begin. And the first step should be to remove Mr Srinivasan. Indian cricket will bounce back only after that.

this is all he truth of the story behind.dhoni has always been looking for the excuses and his statements after the losses are only the excuses and not the facts.now recently chasing a big total of 326 runs in the odi against england he has given very irrelevant statements of ifs and buts.if you are chasing 326 ie @ nearly 110% strike rate is required for each batsman to perform.in this pitch at rajkot from the average sr you get nearly 15-20% extra. his instruction should have been clear each batter not to waste any delivery and look for runs with a require strike rate.there are hardly any batsman who has an average st of 100%.kohli was good enough to score only 15 from 22 deliveries.his scoring 10 runs from just 6 deliveries would have been better.this saving of 16 deliveries could have done the wonders.in this kind of high scoring either get out or score. this is best done only by sehwag who may scor e 20 but not using more than 1o deliveries sometimes-his average sr being 100 - could have played a better part.making runs in odi is good only if it s with a required sr otherwise the batter is as useless.

well , blaming dhoni and his captaincy is not the problem what we have.what can a captain do if neither batsman nor bowler is performing.bring in manoj tiwari, saha, kartik ,rhane under rotation policy and rest senior players,so that these youngster get some exposure to international cricket.

dhoni must be kicked out from the team. he is eating indian cricket like deemak. if we want to save indian cricket me must kick him out as early as possible. this guy is deteriorating the talented players on the cost of chamchagiri like he does for srinivasan and his gay son.

hi friends...the suggestion to axe the captain may nt be an ideal at this point of time.dhoni captaincy may not be the best in test cricket, but not worst.we should not the forget that under the same captain we achieved mile stones even in test cricket.so if we see the change in present team is their form and mindset.the batting order is in very poor form, and the bowling is very inconsistent..what a captain can do..the best thing at this point is to reduce the pressure on dhoni and see his performances..prepare a alternate captain for t20,who can play test cricket as well.later ages he can be the next indian test team captain.the same way axe the irresponsible seniors in the team.give chances like young players like rahane, pujara, rayudu.. implementation of rotation in team, so that more players will be getting international exposure..i believe this efforts will surely help the indian cricket at this point of time.. thank u..

it is very easy to react and say that msd should be removed as captain and n srinivasan as bcci president. this is the only way we react when failures occur and without any basis. success and failure are part of any game and let us take both the things in the same spirit as matured spectators. there is an organized set up existing which is meant to take care of team ion, captaincy, coach, etc. let us remain ourselves as a cricket fan instead of getting into administration which is somebody`s responsibility and we allow them to do their job. there are much more serious matters happening around us causing social and economic concern and we don`t seem to bother about it !ry easy to
