Women and men across the world have become more conscious about the way they look. They have also started taking immense care of their bodies, especially skin, including eating healthy food, using skin care products and shielding themselves from the sun.

But how many of us really have the basics of skin care clear? In an exclusive interview with skin care specialist and founder of ISAAC, Dr Geetika Mittal Gupta, we find out how to take ideal care of our skin and what are the common mistakes that we make in trying to keep our skin young and fresh.

Skin care is an essential part of a woman`s lifestyle, which she often ignores. What is an ideal skin care routine?

The ideal skin care routine as known to many of us is the CTM - Cleansing, toning and moisturising routine, but the other two essential steps are sunblock and exfoliation, at least twice in a week.

What is the one big mistake that people make in their daily skin care routine?

Biggest mistake is stepping out in the sun without sunblock! Sun damage is responsible not only for pigmentation but also for skin ageing. Even simple things, such as travelling in a car or sitting in front of the desktops, also requires us to use a sunblock. A waterproof sunblock with a minimum SPF of 30 pa+++ rating is ideal for Indian skin type.

The wedding season is round the corner. What tips would you give the brides to be?

Relaxation, rejuvenating and reviving are the three essentials for the brides to be. A relaxing spa to de stress, with a rejuvenating skin and body therapies according to the skin type followed by a reviving treatment which is designed according to the individual needs like laser hair reduction for excessive hair removal, acne scar removal, lip augmentation, body contouring and various skin brightening peels and facials can be designed as per requirements.

What beauty treatments should one go for to look as the perfect bride?

A perfect bride should start at least 4 months before `D day` for the ideal makeover which would include:-

Skin - To prepare the skin for a natural glow using various brightening and DE pigmentation facials or lasers. If the skin has some acne or acne scars then they can also be treated with lasers and peels.

Hair - To relax the hair and prepare them for the wedding day, brides can go for various hair rituals customised according to the type of hair they have. In case of hair loss various treatments can be undergone like Meso hair, stem cell, PRP etc. which are known to give good results.

Body - It is the most essential area to be taken care of. De-stressing spa with body polishes and glow wraps should be taken every week leading up to the final day. Various treatments are available with RF technology for tighter skin. Small bulges can be removed non-surgically with treatments which work on the principle of Fat Lysis with the help of ultra-sound or cryolipolyis. These treatments can vary from one session to six sessions depending on the body part and the type of fat.

Even the cellulite can be removed with the latest acoustic wave technology for perfect legs so that brides are not shy of wearing shorts or swim wear on their honey moon.

Anti ageing or augmentation - Various facial features can be augmented with the help of injectables to make the wedding album picture perfect. Lot of brides opt for lip augmentation and cheek augmentation for the diva look.

What are the common Anti-Ageing myths?

Botox and fillers are meant for old! Or it will freeze my face! These are the most common myths.

If done by an experienced injector who understands your face aesthetics then there is nothing to be scared of.

How can you prevent early ageing? Is there a way to delay ageing by using off the shelf products like creams and lotions?

The easiest way to prevent ageing is by a regular use of sun block. Other creams having Vitamin C, Retinols , Co Q 10 have known to work wonderfully to aid in delaying ageing.

What’s the most common question you get asked by clients?

Patients usually ask that they apply SPF in morning do they need to repeat? Sunblock with a minimum SPF of 30 should be applied at least 15 minutes before stepping out in the sun and then every two hours if you remain in the sun.
