‘Satyagrahi’ Baba RamdevRitesh K Srivastava

After the unprecedented success of noted social activist Anna Hazare’s crusade against corruption, acclaimed yoga guru Baba Ramdev is all set to undertake a fast unto death to press the government to bring back black money stashed in foreign banks.

Baba Ramdev’s `Satyagraha Against Corruption` movement is in line with Hazare’s ‘India Against Corruption’, which garnered massive support from the country’s elite and the ordinary, asking the government to pass and enact a strong legislation in this regard.

The yoga exponent’s proposed stir on black money has prompted many to think whether Baba Ramdev is trying to increase his political weight through this movement or is it an attempt to delink himself from Hazare’s Lokpal campaign after he was ignored during the constitution of Lokpal Bill drafting panel?

His detractors think that Ramdev is just another opportunist who is trying to generate people’s support for his movement, similar to Hazare’s campaign, and blackmail the democratically elected Congress-led UPA government at the Centre.

Baba Ramdev is demanding that black money stashed abroad by Indians be brought back and declared a national asset. Ratification of the UN Convention against Corruption and ban on all high-denomination currency notes such as Rs 1,000 and Rs 500.

But whatever one may conjure, Ramdev’s movement has put the UPA government on the backfoot, which does not want another ‘Anna Hazare’ like movement at any cost or any further question mark over its credibility. .

The government has reasons to be worried considering the huge following Ramdev has built up over the years by preaching good health to India’s teeming millions. Moreover, his honest image, especially, his oft-repeated war cry against corruption and the corrupt, and the fact that Ramdev is extremely “TV friendly”, has forced the government to go that extra mile to persuade him against the “Ramlila Maidan plan”.
It’s certainly evident Ramdev’s campaign has been widely received by the countrymen who have registered in large numbers, expressing support to his movement. He is certainly more credible than most politicians of our country, so there are lesser chances of his movement not achieving the same success as that of Hazare’s.

However, there have been murmurs of a rift between the yoga guru and Hazare’s camp after Ramdev went public with the view that people holding the post of Prime Minister and the Chief Justice of India should not be brought under Lokpal’s ambit.

Although, he has now taken a complete U-turn on the issue but what he has ended up doing is to present a different view on the Lokpal debate.

Interestingly, Ramdev has invited Anna Hazare, former IPS officer Kiran Bedi and Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde to join his movement but has not invited Lokpal Bill drafting panel members Shanti Bhushan and his son Prashant. The increasing gap between Hazare and Ramdev’s camp is likely to benefit the UPA government, which differs with the civil rights activists on the scope of the Lokpal Bill.

As the situation stands, Ramdev appears steadfast in his resolve to go on a fast against corruption despite the Centre`s efforts to placate him over his demand for action on black money.
Ramdev is aware that the government of Dr Manmohan Singh is under scanner over corruption allegations, and so it is weak and vulnerable.

The cancer of corruption is slowly eating up our democratic institutions and bringing more disgrace to India as a nation globally. Since people are fed up with corruption, any call from a reputed and honest person, could easily cause discomfort to the government.

But whether Ramdev has the fire and resolve to achieve his goals only time will tell, even as the country gets ready for another anti-corruption jamboree.

kudos to baba`s almost institutionalised mammoth movement,which was long overdue.why cynics(read jornos)are trying to pull down this movement.why focus on perso,lets be cause-centric & solution oriented approach.whosoever douses fire(of rampant corruption)is welcome-be him anna,baba,shabana azmi...indeed,``trying is triumph``. by the way,who is sh.digvijay singh?

congrats to both icons for building up great moment. but my question to government is why you are afraid of accepting their proposals as they are of peoples demand. infact with out asking from any body you should implement the law. but you have failed to implement the law and now at least you are not even thinking but trieng to passify them not to go for demonstrations.

baba is doing really a good job. the black money should come back in country and should be used for welfare works and government is making policies for that. policies can not be framed in just few days. serviceman and public should be counselled against corruption and blackmoney. some chapter should be teach in books to new generation courses, it will act as preventive action. death punishment demand for every tax chor and black money holders by baba ramdev is not genuine it will result loss of great personalities/ icons (players, actors, businessmen). only this hard punishment is not solution of any problem in which 50% population is involved regarding unhealthy money earning activities, so preventive measures should be adopted otherwise indian jails will be full with corruption cases affected government employees and rich/great persons of india.

I cannot understand why we people adjuct ourselves into the system which is corrupt, not public friendly, struggling till the end of life. An indian citizen right from the birth till the end remain struggling agianst the system sometimes against the corrupt babus who took all our money for every small or big job from a normal citizen, sometimes against police with whom a aam aadmi never wants to dealt with, goverment offices, courts and at last big crocodiles who do the big scams and swallow our all the hard earned money, but still NO ACTION against anyone. My dears do we people call this democracy. Persons like ANNA JI, BABA RAMDEV and such other persons like these who are the society icons are coming with a hope. After every 5 years we believe on the Netas and at we last ditched. A question from all the Indians, why should we not beleive on such persons which are coming down to save our country. We all should come forward and join such revolutionary movements to save our country, our society.

Crucial period for Indian Politics.Baba Ramdev has put a big question for politician who think they are licensed for any thing they can do & no body can question. Success to Baba means many of currupt go to Jail , mostly politician,Burocrate & their associates.Thses peoples questioned about authenticity of Baba to raise these issues. A advocate can be a politican, a business man can be a politician and like other also. What is problem if a yoga guru can become politician for wise reason. People of India are not supporting to Baba as he is SANYASI but they are supporting because people trust that he is figting for correct reason.People do not have any alternative from politician whom they trust like MG,Sardar Patel,JP,ABV. Current Politician are politician by profession.

Baba Ramdev is correct in action. This is the greatest war on corruption within the government. It must be taken on a war footing. If this country is attacked will the government say we are finding a solution? So there is no answer that the government can give except to expose the black money trail they have in the possession forthwith. We all support Baba Ramdev in this great battle. In fact if the Government has any sense of shame it should resign forthwith and call for elections. That will give a ttelling answer.
