The World Photography Day is annually observed on Aug 19 across the world to celebrate the beautiful art of photography.

From then to now:

You might not realise, but just notice how far we have come along. Now we have super friendly cameras but once upon a time they were not so convenient, affordable and portable. Modern day cameras have a long history that goes back far in time. Remember that time when photography was just limited to taking pictures on selected and special occasions. How we used to dress up and pose for the camera! But now with the advent of smartphones, we have the option of capturing every single detail of our life, even the blandest one. Often today, we take our cameras for granted and a photograph is nothing new. But we seem to forget how this art has revolutionized our world.

Why we love taking photos?

Nothing can capture and replicate life's memorable experiences and moments better than a camera. No doubt it has emerged to be an irreplaceable tool for all of us.

Something ordinary turns unique once you are behind the lens. Photography gives us a different perspective of the world and even a nondescript and common sight transforms into something magical when captured with the right emotion.

Pictures have brought the world closer to us. It is a way of life which being a powerful means of communication has the ability to touch human lives.

With this dainty tool, you can express yourself-your opinions, interests and beliefs and unleash your creativity. And now with a plethora of options and various technological advancements, you can explore a multitude of ways to capture and represent reality or rather bend it too.

For emotional beings as us, this little medium lets us freeze all those special and unforgettable moments and document our lives. Nothing is more special than gifting someone an image which resonates with heart-felt memories.

The origin of World Photography Day :

It's crucial to go back into time and know what led to this day. World Photography Day originates from the Daguerreotype, a photographic process developed by Joseph Nicèphore Nièpce and Louis Daguerre. On January 9, 1839, The French Academy of Sciences announced the daguerreotype process. On August 19, 1839 , the French government announced this invention as a gift "Free to the World".

Another great invention in the form of the Calotype was awaiting the year 1839.William Fox Talbot invented this photographic process and together, the invention of both the Daguerreotype and Calotype mark 1839 as the year that photography was invented.

Now after 170 years, we commemorate August 19th as a day which gave Humanity such a rare gift.

Founding of the World Photography Day

A passionate Australian photographer Korske Ara in 2009 launched the World Photography Day Project. On 19 August 2010, the first global online gallery of World Photography Day was hosted. The day is celebrated in order to unite global as well as local communities of the photographers.
