Hours after BJP wins trust vote, Congress MLA Vishwajit Rane quits party

Panaji: Goa Congress MLA Vishwajit PratapSingh Rane on Thursday resigned from party as well as an MLA, blaming party leadership for the failure to form government in the coastal state, despite emerging as the single largest party in the recently concluded Assembly election.

Questioning top brass' style of handling the party affairs in Goa, Rane said that he didn't expected anything from the grand old party, which has destroyed the trust of Goans.

After submitting his resignation letter to pro-tem speaker Siddharth Kuncalienkar, Rane said he would again contest from Valpoi.

He categorically stated that he wouldn't realign with Congress, but also refrained from revealing the name of the party he would be joining.

Days after a group of the Congress’ Goa legislators blamed the central leadership for failure to form the government in the state despite being the single largest party after the assembly polls, Rane had on Wednesday said that he, along with five to six other MLAs, would quit the party if party vice president Rahul Gandhi does not respond adequately to the letter written to him by them.

Rane and his group of legislators wrote a letter to party vice-president Rahul Gandhi complaining about the senior Congress leadership. In the letter, he said that the senior leaders were responsible for the party losing out on the opportunity to form the government in the state.

Rane asserted that it was shocking how despite having people’s mandate in the form of 17 seats in the assembly, the situation was mismanaged by the people in charge of affairs in Goa.
