AHMEDABAD: Ahead of the second phase of Gujarat Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday will address a public rally here near Sabarmati Riverfront.

The rally is scheduled to be held at 7 pm.

This will be the first time that PM Modi will address a public gathering near the Riverfront, which is developed along the banks of Sabarmati river.

The Prime Minister has been on a spree of addressing rallies in poll-bound Gujarat.

On Sunday, PM Modi addressed as many as four rallies in order throughout the day.

With the end of the first phase of polling on Saturday, over 68 percent turnout was recorded for 89 Assembly seats in the state.

The main contenders in the Gujarat polls are the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which is making a bid for a fifth term and the Congress which is attempting an electoral revival.

Both the parties are carrying out a series of campaigns for the second phase, scheduled for December 14. The second phase of voting for the high-stakes election will be held for the remaining 93 seats.

On Saturday, a total of 977 candidates were in the fray and around 2.12 crore voters were expected to exercise their franchise in the first phase.

Gujarat has 182 assembly constituencies. The counting of votes will take place on December 18.
