New Delhi: A woman from Singapore lost her life merely hours after undergoing a weight loss surgery at a hospital in Chennai.

35-year-old Alicia Medanin Khan was admitted to the SR Multi Specialty Hospital in Arumbakkam on November 8 and died of cardiac arrest on November 9 after her liposuction surgery.

As per a leading daily, her husband Vijaykumar said that doctors did not allow him to see his wife post the surgery citing that she was suffering from complications.

He also said that he was informed of his wife's death at 1:30 am on Thursday and his request for a written report of her condition was rejected by doctors. Alicia's body was later sent for autopsy.

Vijayakumar has alleged medical negligence as reason for his wife's death and lodged a police complaint against the doctors and the hospital management for not disclosing his wife's health before and after surgery.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death for now, the leading daily reported.

Alicia decided to go in for liposuction as she had been gaining weight continuously and wanted to be fitter.
