New Delhi: A blood clot, although not that harmful, can become dangerous if it breaks free and travels to your heart and lungs. According to Healthline, a blood clot is a mass of blood which changes from liquid to a gel-like or semisolid state. It is most commonly found in the lower leg.

Clotting is a necessary process which can prevent you from losing too much blood. But when a clot forms inside one of your veins, it won’t always dissolve on its own and can be very harmful.

Here are a few signs which show that you might have a blood clot:

Skin discoloration

If you notice some bruise-like discoloration on your skin, then it is a sign that you have blood clot. It can also cause redness and make your arm or leg feel warm.

Arm pain or leg pain

Pain is another symptom of skin discolouration. And the pain from a blood clot is usually mistaken for muscle pain or cramp and strikes when you try to flex your feet or walk.

Swelling

Another common sign of a blood clot is swelling in the leg or arm. Swelling occurs when a blood clot blocks the healthy flow of blood and thus accumulates behind the clot.

Breathing problem

A blood clot in your lungs can slow the flow of oxygen which leads to shortness of breath. If you are having trouble taking deep breaths, then it could be a sign that you have pulmonary embolism in your lungs.
