Puducherry: Facing shortage of manpower in
police department, Puducherry Government has decided to recruit 1,000 personnel by this year end, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said Thursday.
The government was aware that there was shortage of
policemen and steps had been taken to strengthen the force,
he told G.Nehru (AINRC) and Ohm Sakthi Segar (AIADMK) during

An official source said the Union Territory presently has
around 2,500 police personnel at constable level besides around 1,000 attached to the India Reserve Battalion (IRB).
To another question by P Purushothaman (AIADMK) Welfare and
Tourism Minister P.Rajavelu said a detailed plan had been sent
to the Centre for development of the sprawling Ousteri lake
here as part of tourism promotion projects.
Amenities for tourists and recreationary activities,
including a boat house, would be set up under the development
of the lake and funds for the project would be sought from the
Housing Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), he said.
Agriculture Minister M.Chandhrakasu said the Centre had
earmarked Rs 31.29 crores under the `Rashtriya Kisan Vikas
Yojana` (National Agricultural Development Programme) for
Puducherry. The union territory government would prepare a
state Agriculture Plan under the RKVY for implementation of
schemes for development of agriculture.
