Puducherry: Congress workers led by former chief minister V Vaithilingam on Thursday broke 1008 coconuts at an ancient Lord Ganesha temple here and sought the blessings of the deity for long and healthy life to Congress president

The workers prayed to the Lord for long and healthy life to Gandhi to resume her service for people`s welfare, Congress sources said.
Those who took part in the ceremony at the 300-year-old Manakula Vinayakar temple included PCC leader AV Subramanian.
The programme was organised by the Puducherry based Rahul Gandhi National Federation, a voluntary organisation.
Its volunteers also performed special poojas seeking the Lord`s blessings for Sonia Gandhi who returned to India early this month after surgery in the US.
