London: Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo joined several other footballers and other celebrities from both sports and the political arena in paying regards to Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson, in the wake of his imminent retirement.
Ronaldo posted a picture of his first day at Old Trafford along with Ferguson on Twitter with a message thanking him for everything that the manager has done for the footballer, Sport 24 reports. British Prime Minister David Cameron followed the lead with his tweet praising Ferguson for his exceptional achievement at United and hoping that the Scot`s retirement will be good for his Premier League team Aston Villa. Joining the league was FIFA president Sepp Blatter who said that Ferguson`s reign in the football world is unparallel to any other, where Ferguson has claimed 38 trophies in 26 years, not forgetting 13 Premier League titles. Former England striker Michael Owen, who has played for two seasons in United, said that it was an honour to have played under the manager. Golfer Rory Mcllroy also praised Ferguson, saying that it will be difficult for United to replace Ferguson as the latter`s exit would mark an end to a glorious era in the football world. ANI
