New Delhi: Recuperating from a violent attack in his NIS hostel room, Asian Games silver-medallist boxer Dinesh Kumar neither has any memory of the perpetrator nor any clue as to why he was targeted.
The light heavyweight boxer, who returned to the country on Tuesday after participating in a Test event for the 2012 London Olympics, was attacked while he was sleeping in his hostel room in the wee hours of Thursday morning. The 24-year-old sustained head injuries but is back in NIS after being treated at a Chandigarh hospital. "I can`t recollect anything. I just remember being hit by someone around 2 or 3 at night and running for help to (fellow boxer) Vijender`s room. What happened before that and after, I can`t remember anything," Dinesh told reporters. "We had gone to attend a wedding and came back to our hostel rooms pretty late and I was sleeping when I was hit on the head. I don`t know who it was, why was I targetted, it just baffles me. My head is still spinning," added the Arjuna awardee. The man who helped Dinesh by taking him to a hospital, Olympic bronze-medallist Vijender Singh is equally flummoxed. "He came to my room crying and bleeding. He collapsed soon after and we took him to hospital. I don`t know what the matter is. We have lodged a police complaint but I don`t have an idea why he was attacked and most importantly who did it," said the World Championships bronze-medallist. "Dinesh is a lot better now. Thank god that his injuries are not too serious. But this incident is unnerving," added Vijender. PTI
