New Delhi: The internal probe panel, set up
by the Athletics Federation of India, into the doping scandal
will submit its report within one month, one of the committee
members said on Friday.
The three-member AFI panel on Friday began the inquiry with a
meeting here and they are expected to submit the report by
"We started our inquiry today with a meeting. We will
meet all the athletes either here in Delhi or at NIS Patiala
by July 25. We are hoping that the report will be submitted by
August 15," Madhu Kant Pathak, one of the panel members, told
The panel was told by the AFI to first submit a
preliminary report within one month and the final one within
three months. But Pathak said the panel will submit the final
report within one month.
"We are not preparing a preliminary report. We are
submitting a final report by August 15," he said.
"Our job is to find out how the doping incident had
happened, the sequence of events and to give suggestion how it
should not happen in future," Pathak, also President of the
Jharkhand Athletic Association, said.
The AFI had set up the internal inquiry panel after eight
athletes, including Asian Games double gold medallist Ashwini
Akkunji, her gold-winning 4x400m relay team-mates Mandeep Kaur
and Sini Jose, tested positive for anabolic steroids.
