Guwahati, Mar 10: Senior Leaders of the Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), which hopes to unseat ruling Congress in Assam, today projected party president Brindaban Goswami as its chief ministerial candidate for the coming assembly polls.
However, a modest Goswami said the leader for the top post "can be decided later".
The party general secretaries here today said that Goswami was the party's chief ministerial candidate and would be projected as such for the coming polls in the state.
The AGP, which announced its first list of contestants for the two-phase polls on April 3 and 10 next has\ meanwhile, suffered a set back in Dhemaji district over resentment on selection of candidates.
To the gain of the breakaway AGP faction led by former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, AGP's Dhemaji unit president Rabi Gogoi and General Secretary Khirod Sonowal along with 40 followers have joined the AGP (Progressive).
A party ticket hopeful from Dhemaji constituency, Sonowal accused AGP General Secretary Dilip Saikia, MLA, of favouring his brother Paramananda Sonowal instead.
