Allahabad, Jan 29: The Allahabad High Court on Thursday rejected a petition filed by a BJP leader and member of Uttar Pradesh legislative council, in which he had sought a stay on his arrest in a criminal case.
A Division Bench comprising Justice Amar Saran and
Justice R N Misra rejected the petition of Udai Nath Singh
alias Chulbul Singh, who had sought a stay on his arrest and
quashing of an FIR filed against him at Kapsethi police
station of Varanasi district for his alleged role in illicit
liquor trade.

As per facts of the case, three persons were arrested
from a house in Kapsethi on December 26 and police had
recovered huge quantity of illicit liquor from their
possession. The landlady told the police that the house was
taken on rent by Singh, who had employed the trio - Tej
Bahadur Singh, Sanjai Jaiswal and Gopal Jaiswal - for the
alleged illicit liquor trade.

A case was later registered under various sections of the
Excise Act as well as the Indian Penal Code and Chulbul Singh
was also named in the FIR.

The court, however, dismissed his writ petition observing
"the matter is very serious. In such type of cases, it is not
desirable to interfere in the investigation."

Singh is the elder brother of dreaded underworld don
Brijesh Singh, who was arrested by a Delhi Police team from
Orissa last year.
