Puducherry: The Department of Agriculture has
postponed the annual flower, fruit and vegetable festival as
the botanical garden, the venue of the fete, has been ravaged
by the cyclone.
Agriculture Minister M Chandirakasu told reporters here
today that usually the festival would be held in the middle of
February every year. Because of the Thane cyclone and its
devastation the postponement was necessary, he said.
He said the annual flower festival scheduled to be held for
a week from January 6 in Yanam an enclave of Puducherry in
Andhra Pradesh had also been cancelled and all the saplings
and other agricultural implements sought to be displayed in
the festival were being disposed.
