Arsenal blundered making me scapegoat for troubles: Gallas

William Gallas has said he proved his former club Arsenal wrong.

London: Tottenham defender William Gallas has said he has proved his former club Arsenal wrong for making him the scapegoat for all their troubles.

He claimed Arsenal blundered by allowing him to join their bitter rivals for nothing last summer.

Gallas, 33, has just signed a new two-year contract at Tottenham after impressing boss Harry Redknapp with his attitude and consistency.

“People can finally see it was too early to say all Arsenal’s problems came from William Gallas. Fans in the streets still ask me why I left Arsenal. I went because we could not agree financial terms - and they decided not to make an effort to keep me.
“I respected their choice and they respected the fact that I didn`t want the wages they proposed,” a newspaper quoted Gallas, as saying.

“Arsene Wenger made his decision and I believe he made a mistake because when you look at Arsenal this season, something was missing from their team,” he added.

Gallas fell out of favour at Arsenal in November 2008 when he was stripped of the captaincy and fined two weeks’ wages for publicly criticising Samir Nasri and Gunners teammates.

“People tried to make me out as the ugly duckling, but the contrary was the case. Samir Nasri knows the problem. He cannot lie to himself,” he said.
