Mumbai: Egyptian Ramy Ashour ousted compatriot and four-time World champion Amr Shabana to book his place in the final of the `Punj Lloyd PSA Masters 2009` at the Bombay Gymkhana.
Ashour will face England`s Nick Matthew, who defeated another Englishman Peter Barker 13-11, 11-6, 11-5 in straight games. World number three Shabana looked off-colour throughout the match, playing some uncharacteristic shots and making a lot of errors, as Ashour, ranked two places below him, stamped his class to win 11-9, 13-15, 11-8, 11-2.The first game saw good rallies being exchanged between the two as Ashour, trailing 2-4, came from behind to claim the set with a backhand nick. Shabana led the second game 9-4 before Ashour knocked off six consecutive points, forcing the game into a tie-break. However, Shabana won a couple of good points to pocket the game 15-13.However, it was Ashour all the way from here as Shabana failed to produce the same form in the rest of the match, gifting many points to the former as a result of unforced errors. By the time the fourth game started, Shabana had resigned to his fate and just went through the motion, even as injury concerns began to be voiced. PTI
