Chandigarh: Ashwani Sharma was elected
unopposed here today as the new President of the Punjab unit
of the BJP.
45-year-old Sharma, who was the general secretary of the
Pradesh BJP earlier, takes over from Rajidner Bhandari.
Soon after being elected unanimously to the post, Sharma
laid out his priorities in the presence of senior party
leaders, saying that working for the SAD-BJP combine`s victory
in the next assembly polls, strengthening the organisation and
serving as a bridge between party cadres and the government
were on top of his agenda.
Claiming that the BJP shares a deep bonding with its
partner in power the SAD, he said it went beyond the confines
of political alliance between the two parties.
"We will work hard to see that SAD-BJP comes back to
power after the next polls, which is needed for Punjab`s
peace, prosperity and overall development," he said.
Asking his party`s Ministers, MLAs and other leaders to
do self-introspection, he said they should analyse what they
have lost and gained during the past three years of SAD-BJP
rule in Punjab and advised them to move "shoulder-to-shoulder"
