Silchar: The Assam United Democratic Front
(AUDF) would contest from 86 constituencies in the coming
Assembly Elections in the state.
AUDF president Badaruddin Ajmal told reporters here on Monday that the party had won 10 seats in the last Assembly polls but
was confident of winning more seats in the ensuing polls,
scheduled on April 4 and April 11 next.
The party candidates were in the second place in 12 seats
and third in 17 seats in the last polls and no party could
form the next government in the state by ignoring the AUDF, he
asserted, adding the list of candidates will be announced on
To reports of misunderstanding between him and the Jamiat
president Maulana Arshad Madani, Ajmal claimed the
Jamiat-e-Ulema Hind was behind this and added that "frustrated
politicians as Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain was spreading
the misinformation" for their own vested interests.
"The Jamiat as well as several other minority
organisations are with us and the minor misunderstandings
between us will be sorted out soon," he said.
