Australian Open: Sania Mirza crashes out in Rd 1

Sania Mirza crashed out from the Australian Open with a defeat at the hands of Justine Henin.

Melbourne: Indian tennis star Sania Mirza crashed out from the Australian Open with a fighting 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 defeat at the hands of former World No.1 Justine Henin in her first round match in Melbourne on Monday. Sania was on top of her game in the first set, winning it in a tie breaker but from there on, Henin upped the ante and did not let the Indian slip away with the match. The Belgian remained on course of another Grand Slam, seeded 11th in the tournament as she won the next two sets with ease despite some good show of volley and serve by the Indian. Unseeded, Sania has earlier reached the third round of the tournament twice, in 2007 and 2008.She had picked her first Grand Slam title at the 2009 Australian Open. Partnered with Mahesh Bhupathi, she had won the mixed doubles title beating Nathalie Dechy (France) and Andy Ram (Israel) 6–3, 6–1 in the final.
