Bagan bt BNR 2-1, finish 2nd in CFL

Though Bagan have to remain content being runners-up in this league having lost their penultimate match 0-2 against their archrivals and champions East Bengal. Bagan finished with 40 points from 16 matches. They lost to Aryan and East Bengal and drew with Chirag United. BNR, having two more matches to play, have so far bagged 21 points from 14 outings and are now placed at the sixth spot in the league table. After a lacklustre display by both the sides for most part of the first half, Bagan drew first blood in the 41st minute when a Jayanta Sen shot off medio Jayanta Chakraborty went in hitting BNR defender Barun`s leg. Bagan found their rhythm after the goal and struck again a minute before the breather. Following a combined move, Bagan striker Chiddi ran down the left flank and sent a floater into the BNR goalmouth. Striker Jose Barreto, who moved up anticipating well, shot home neatly. The second half saw Bagan dominating all through but could not increase the lead because of poor finishing by the front liners. BNR, on the other hand, sparkled at the last moment and reduced the margin during injury time through striker Krishanu Banerjee who beat Bagan custodian Shilton Paul with a rasping drive off a nice pass by medio Jawal. The young and promising Krishanu was adjudged man of the match. PTI
