Bagan draw 1-1 with Chirag in IFA shield

Mohun Bagan settles for a 1-1 draw against Chirag United in their Group B clash of the 115th IFA Shield.

Kolkata: Mohun Bagan dished out a sloppy display to settle for a 1-1 draw against Chirag United in their Group B clash of the 115th IFA Shield at Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
Mohun Bagan, who opted to rest their foreigner trio of Subair Muritala Ali, Edeh Chidi and inspirational Jose Barreto, lacked the attacking flavor but took the lead courtesy an own goal by Chirag United. Chirag defender Naru Gopal Hait scored in his side`s own net misjudging an Ashim Biswas centre. Mohun Bagan fluffed chances aplenty and failed to add to their 1-0 tally at the interval. Chirag earned a 60th minute penalty when Malswamtulunga was brought down inside the box and Choi Young converted it. Mohun Bagan, who have already earned the last-four berth, finished with eight points, while the second semifinalists from the group will be decided when Pune FC will take on Shillong Lajong FC on April 26.Having beaten Aryans yesterday, Pune FC (six points from three matches) need to avoid a loss against the third placed Shillong Lajong (5/3). Earlier yesterday, 27-time champions East Bengal made a shock exit from the tournament after going down 0-1 to defending champions Churchill Brothers.Churchill scored through a Bineesh Balan penalty in the 29th minute in a group A encounter.
