Mumbai: Teenager Nikita Arjun from Bangalore maintained her composure and consistent form to lift the first BPGC Open Ladies Amateur Golf Championship at the Bombay Presidency Golf Course here on Thursday.
Going into the last day with only a one-stroke lead over city rival Anisha Padukone, 16-year-old Nikita returned a card of eleven over 81 on the last day of the three-day, 54-hole tournament, while her rival trailed her by two strokes.
Anisha, who had to do something spectacular on the final day to overhaul Nikita, came in at thirteen over 83 to finish second behind Nikita who had a total aggregate of 242, three better than the former.
"With only a one stroke lead on the final day, you have to be full of confidence and play aggressive, which I did on the last day, and if your opponents play better then you also get encouragement to play better, but that did not happen," said Nikita after winning her first major title.
