Bekele easily won the men’s 10,000 on Monday to begin a bid to duplicate his golden double at last year’s Beijing Olympics. Bekele holds the world record in both events, but no man has won both at the worlds. Countrywoman Tirunesh Dibaba, absent in Berlin due to injury, won both races in 2005.Seven other finals will be held on Sunday. The women’s marathon starts the programme with gold also on the line in the men’s 800 metres, women’s 1,500, men’s javelin, women’s long jump and the men’s and women’s 4x400 relays. Bureau Report
