Chennai: Top seed and world number six Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic cruised to the singles quarter-finals of the Chennai Open with an easy 6-2 6-4 win over unseeded Ivan Dodig of Croatia, here on Wednesday.

Berdych began well and raced away with the opening set in just 30 minutes and completed the win one hour and 27 minutes.

Dodig regrouped after the first-set drubbing and put up a better show in the second set but Berdych was too strong an opponent.

Berdych was happy with his second consecutive win in as many days.

"It was another happy day as I went through the motions. Generally, it is always tough to win over a player whom you are meeting for the first time. Every day your opponent surprises you with something and you got to be ready," Berdych said after the match.
