`Glee` angers children`s charities

Paltrow`s performance on pop star Gary`s song angers children`s charities.

London: The bosses at `Glee` have angered children`s charity group over Gwyneth Paltrow`s performance on disgraced pop star Gary Glitter`s song.

Channel 4 has refused to censor scenes showing Paltrow singing a track by Glitter much to the annoyance of children welfare agencies. They accuse that Paltrow`s version of Glitter`s 1973 hit, `Do You Wanna Touch Me` on Glee, which revolves around High School students, is likely to earn the convicted sex offender thousands in royalty payments after it entered the iTunes top 30 when it aired in the US this week. Paltrow`s character, Holly Holliday who returns for the second time on the show, sings the song during a sex education class in an episode soon to air, a daily reported. The song is also on an album of music from the show. Glitter, 66, real name Paul Gadd, is on the sex offenders` register and is banned from 19 countries. He was jailed in Vietnam for sexually assaulting two girls aged 10 and 11 and was deported back to the UK in 2008. In 1999 he was imprisoned for possessing child pornography. His music has since been largely banned from the airwaves. Claude Knights, of children`s charity Kidscape, said: "It is regrettable the producers did not consider the implication of using such a track. The fact it is linked to Gary Glitter, and the words themselves, make it wholly inappropriate." A Channel 4 spokesman, however, said: "The scene is editorially justified within the programme. We do not seek to censor material in the proper context." PTI
