Kolkata: Expressing happiness at the interim order by AIFF-appointed arbitrator allowing him to play in the I-League, Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia today said "few" Mohun Bagan officials were out to destroy his career.
"I am happy to have come out of the row, for the time being. It feels good that I can now play in the I-League," Bhutia told reporters at the East Bengal tent here today. An interim order passed by former Additional Solicitor General Amarendra Sharan made it clear that Bhutia is now free to play for any club of his choice in the I-League starting October 1. The star striker has a year`s contract left with Mohun Bagan but with this decision Bhutia can now play in the upcoming I-League for East Bengal with whom he has entered into an agreement recently. "I missed two important tournaments (IFA Shield and Durand Cup) with the dispute and now I want to come out of that and perform for my team in the I-League," he said of the three-and-half months` prolonged battle against Mohun Bagan. Bhutia, who was suspended for six months without pay by Mohun Bagan on disciplinary grounds, claimed that `few` officials were trying to destroy his football career. Bureau Report
