CAG says demolition of sports complex `improper`

The Comptroller and Auditor general has taken strong exception to the demolition of a sports complex within ten years of its construction in Gomti Nagar area.

But in this case, the committee contrary to its earlier decision recommended demolition of the complex as it was not integrating with the new project for installing statues of legendary personalities at the Sansthan and its height was obstructing the view of the new structures.

The government issued the demolition orders to Lucknow Development Authority and it dismantled it in May 2008 incurring an expenditure of Rs 1.74 crores, it added.
