Toronto: The deputy leader of Canada`s new main opposition party says he doesn`t believe claims from the US administration that it has pictures of a dead Osama bin Laden but has chosen not to release them.
New Democrat deputy leader Thomas Mulcair said Wednesday in an interview with the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. that he didn`t think the pictures exist.
Mulcair`s leftist party went from fourth place to the official opposition after Monday`s election.
New Democrat spokesman Karl Belanger later said in an email to The Associated Press that the party has no reason to doubt President Barack Obama`s statement.
A spokesman for Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Dimitri Soudas, a said he was "honestly flabbergasted" by the comments and said the "White House has made it clear the pictures exist and there`s absolutely no reason to doubt that."
