Pune: In an early morning swoop, CBI sleuths raided the residence of city Congress MP and CWG Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi here as part of the ongoing investigations into the alleged irregularities in the Games` management.
The eight-member team also searched Kalmadi`s farm house at Khadakwasla near here, the "Sai Service" petrol station owned by him and also the residence of one his secretaries in the city, sources said.
CBI officials who remained tight-lipped throughout the raids that started around 7.30 am and continued till late afternoon, were assisted by local police.
"They are looking for some documents. We do not know whether they have got what they wanted," said a police official talking to reporters who had gathered outside the "Kalmadi House" located off the arterial Karve road in West Pune.
Kalmadi`s wife Meera was inside the residence during the course of the searches that caused a flutter in the city which the high profile MP represents in Parliament.
Scores of onlookers thronged the narrow by-lane craning their necks to have a glimpse of the CBI activity in the premises.
All doors and windows of the building were closely shut by the investigators and only Kalmadi`s personal security men, and local policemen were visible in the compound with a high rise gate.
Not many Kalmadi supporters were present when the CBI undertook the searches. Later, a few of his close aides told reporters that Kalmadi was being singled out for the CWG imbroglio even though all decision relating to the management of the Games were taken collectively.
Today`s raids by CBI was the first official investigation covering Kalmadi`s property in the city in the aftermath of the CWG scam.
