Kolkata: The motivation from coach Karim
Bencherifa and team mate Jose Ramirez Barreto was helpful in
his match winning performance, Mohun Bagan`s striker Edeh
Chidi said today.
The Nigerian scored four goals to power the
green-and-maroon brigade to a 5-3 win over East Bengal in a
round four I-League encounter at Yuba Bharati Krirangan here
today.
Chidi had a poor run of late and in their last match in
the local league he had wasted many chances as questions were
raised about his potential in big matches.
"Normally, I raise my level after a dip in performance. I
was down and the coach and Barreto spoke to me and gave me
motivation that helped me in today`s performance," Chidi said.
Dedicating this performance to his coach, teammates and
family back home in Nigeria, Chidi said, "I don`t think of any
record while playing a match. I just try to remain focused and
do my role in the team."
Mohun Bagan coach Bencherifa said his team played
beautifully and he was very happy that they were back to
winning ways in the I-League.
"The three points have brought us back in the table. We
played at another level. It was brilliant and an organised
show from us. The boys took the responsibility from the start
and took control of the game," he said.
The win has helped Mohun Bagan climb up in the standings
to fifth place with six points from four matches.
