Vasco: Kolkata`s Chirag United scored a
hard fought 1-0 victory over a fighting Sesa Football Academy
in the Group `B` quarter-finals league match of the Federation
Cup on Tuesday.
Both teams started cautiously as they tried to gauge
each other defence at Tilak Maidan here.
The young Goan outfit, who came through the qualifiers
beating Vasco Sports Club and Sporting clube de Goa, gave a
good account of themselves. They matched their fancy Kolkata
outfit and dictated terms, especially in the second half where
they had ample scoring chances, but lack of finishing saw them
ended on losing side.
Chirag, who enjoyed a prolonged ball possession in the
first half, scored through Denson Devdas. He again had a
chance in the closing stage of the first half to increase the
lead, but was unlucky as the ball hit the post and went out.
Sesa, though down, played a disciplined game and
dictated terms in the second half. They came close to finding
the equaliser at least on four occasions, but their strikers
like Rakshak Naik and C Shirshuram failed to deliver.
Sesa went all out in the dying minutes and had the
best chance to find the equaliser, but substitute Richard
Colaco shot straight at keeper Somnath Khara.
Referee Andrew Shekar showed yellow card to Chirag`s
Nascimento Silveira and Sesa`s Shishuram.
