Barasat: Chirag United started their campaign on a confident note defeating Railway FC 2-0 in the Sahara Kolkata Premier Division Soccer league at Vidyasagar Stadium.
Both the goals were scored in the first half.
After striker Branco put Chirag in the lead in the 10th minute, Junior increased the tally 12 minutes before the half time.
Chirag displayed their fine form and dominated the proceedings, especially during the initial half.
Though their main schemer Josimer could not play today his absence was ably made up by Branco-Junior duo who fashioned most of their attacks and displayed fine opportunism in finding the target.
Though Railway FC won heir inaugural match against Kalighat Milan Samity 1-0 in their first league match, they failed to repeat the performance today. They made some sporadic moves but their frontliners failed to finish.
Chirag went into attack right after the kick off and after a few abortive moves, they forged ahead in the 10 minute.
Following a centre from the right flank, Junior headed the ball towards Railway goal but came back after hitting the crosspiece. Branco, who was lurking inside the rival box, utilised the chance and headed home (1-0).
Inspired by the goal, Chirag pressed into attack mode, but a tight Railway defence denied them any further advantage till the 33rd minute.
Off a goal-bound centre, Chirag striker Junior followed the ball well, dodging past a rival defender with a fine body swerve and sent the ball over the onrushing Railway custodian into the goal and sealed their victory (2-0).
