Dehra Dun: The ruling BJP on Thursday accused the
Congress of insulting the people of Uttarakhand even before
the state came into existence a decade ago and said people
would give a befitting reply to it in the Assembly elections.
"Everybody knows that the Congress had opposed creation of
separate Uttarakhand state and when the party came to power in
2002, it made that Congress leader the of Chief Minister who
had said that Uttarakhand would be formed only on his body,"
BJP General Secretary Dharmendra Pradhan told reporters here.
Maintaining that there was no change in the attitude of
Congress, he said when the NDA was in power at the Centre, it
gave an industrial package to Uttarakhand but the UPA
government "snatched it".
Similarly, a rural development institute which was awarded
to Kotdwar area of Uttarakhand, was later shifted to
Congress-ruled Rajasthan, he claimed.
The BJP leader said Uttarakhand was ignored during the
announcement of opening up of 21 textile parks in the country.
"While Congress-ruled Maharashtra and Rajasthan got 6 and 4
parks respectively, Uttarakhand got nothing," he said.
He charged all the five Congress Lok Sabha members in the
state with doing nothing on the issue and said the people
of the state would take revenge in the elections.
