Continued vigilance required against al Qaeda: Obama to Aus PM

Australian PM congratulated US Prez on successful operation against Osama.

Washington: US President Barack Obama in a telephonic conversation with Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard underscored the need of continued vigilance against al Qaeda after the killing of its leader Osama bin Laden, the White House has said.

"The President underscored that this was an important moment in the fight against al Qaeda and noted the need for continued vigilance," the White House said in a statement after Obama called Gillard aboard Air Force One.

Gillard congratulated Obama and US forces on the successful operation against Osama bin Laden.
"The President and Prime Minister also discussed US-Australian cooperation against global terrorism and the situation in Afghanistan," the White House said.
