CPI-M to contest on 12-15 seats in Gujarat
The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) will contest on 12-15 seats in Gujarat in December, party leader Sitaram Yechury said Wednesday.
Shimla: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) will contest on 12-15 seats in Gujarat in December, party leader Sitaram Yechury said Wednesday.
Yechury was here to canvass for CPI-M candidates for the Nov 4 polls. He said the CPI-M had succeeded in giving a "credible third alternative" to the people in the hill state.
"The CPI-M has succeeded in Himachal with like-minded parties to give a third alterative. We will strive hard to fill the void created by the Congress and the BJP," he said.
Yechury was non-commital on supporting the Trinamool Congress` decision to bring a no-confidence motion against the United Progressive Alliance on issue of allowing foreign investment in retail trade.
"The TMC says something and does something else," he said.
The CPI-M has fielded 23 candidates in Himachal Pradesh.
In May, the CPI-M scripted history by winning the top posts of the Shimla Municipal Corporation, one of the country`s oldest civic bodies.
Himachal Pradesh has also emerged as one of the fastest growing areas for the CPI-M`s youth wing, the Students Federation of India.
