Date Krumm, Zheng advance at Montreal

Montreal: China`s Zheng Jie and Japan`s Kimiko Date Krumm advanced to the second round of the two million-dollar WTA Montreal Cup with wins.

Zheng breezed past Slovenia`s Katarina Srebotnik 6-3, 6-2 while Date Krumm outlasted Romania`s Monica Niculescu 7-6 (7/4), 4-6, 6-2.Next up for Zheng is France`s Aravane Rezai while Date Krumm booked a second-round date with another French woman, Marion Bartoli, who eliminated Canada`s Valerie Tetreault 6-1, 6-0. Reigning US Open champion Kim Clijsters, who had a first-round bye, will open against Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who ousted fellow American Melanie Oudin 6-1, 6-4.The second round was set to begin later with Serbian top seed Jelena Jankovic facing Czech qualifier Iveta Benesova and Chinese ninth seed Li Na to meet Australian qualifier Jamila Groth.
