Delhi EC creating awareness to maximise voter turnout

To increase voter turnout in the Lok Sabha polls, the Delhi Election Commission is leaving no stone unturned, as it is utilising almost all platforms from bus shelters, newspapers, Metro stations to radio where its new slogan `Ab Baithe Nahi Rahenge, Vote Karenge` is promoted.

New Delhi: To increase voter turnout in the Lok Sabha polls, the Delhi Election Commission is leaving no stone unturned, as it is utilising almost all platforms from bus shelters, newspapers, Metro stations to radio where its new slogan `Ab Baithe Nahi Rahenge, Vote Karenge` is promoted.
The commission has also decided to put its new slogan in bus shelters, newspapers, Metro stations and railway stations across the city. Besides, poll officials have prepared two slogan for radio-- `Apne Umidwaar Ko pehchano` and `Kisi Ke Behakave main nahi, Vote to Apni Marzi Se Dungi/Dunga,` "Delhi Election Commission will release its new slogans within the next two-three days. We will put advertisements on bus shelters, metro stations and railway stations to encourage voters across the national capital," said a poll official, who did not wish to be named. Besides, EC has also roped in cricketer Virat Kohli to encourage people, especially youth, to come forward and cast their vote. The poster of Kohli will be put across the city to create awareness among the voters. Kohli was also the star campaigner in the last Delhi Assembly elections. In the Delhi Assembly polls, the commission had encouraged voters with slogan `Dil Me Hai Dilli, Vote Karenge`. Delhi polls had witnessed a record turnout of 66 per cent, the highest so far. Poll officials are hopeful of record voter turnout in the coming Lok Sabha elections, which is scheduled to be held on April 10. There are around 1.27 crore voters till March 22, 2014 in the national Capital.
